Why are dental radiographs neccessary?

Radiographs are a diagnostic aid that allows for the detection of pathology that is not visible to the naked eye. X-rays aid in the detection of cavities, bone loss below gums, infection in the bone and around roots of teeth, damage from trauma, and lesions such as cysts and tumors.
