Consuming starchy foods and foods with a high content of refined sugars places one at a higher risk for caries and gum disease. Frequent snaking significantly increases the risk for cavities. Starchy, sugary foods will be used by cavity causing bacteria to significantly increase the acid content of the mouth for about 20 minutes. Multiple acidic attacks to the tooth structure will lead to demineralization and eventual cavities. Our family oriented dental office in Santa Rosa can recommend better diet habits and oral products to counteract the effects of acid attacks on your teeth.
